Red Bull Portugal proposed the challenge to make 15 artworks, one for each pilot in the Red Bull Air Race.
As a result, this 15 framed canvas, each inspired individually in the pilots background, interests and team colors. Each is signed in the back and has a text about the Portuguese Azulejo tile (check it after the images).
Thanks to the nice people from Red Bull for once again, the opportunity to produce another great work.

In Portugal, the Azulejo tile is more than a mere decorative element of little intrinsic value.
It has been an important medium for Portuguese artistic expression for more than five centuries. This conventional material is used both for its low cost as well as for its effective abilities of aesthetically qualifying a building in a practical way. With its strong scenographic, descriptive and monumental qualities, the Azulejo tile is nowadays considered one of the most original products of Portuguese culture, which reveals not only the history, but also the mentality and the aesthetics of each era.
Diogo Machado (a.k.a. add fuel to the fire) is a Portuguese artist related to the new Pop culture who draws inspiration from the quotidian, from life itself and from the urban environment. Urban culture and life in society have always had a strong influence on his work. Due to his roots, he has always been in touch and familiar with the standardisation of patterns produced by the murals of Azulejo tiles.
History is once again retold, this time inserted in the “add fuel to the fire” universe, where the Azulejo tile is turned into a mass of colour, of detail, of pilots and aeroplanes: patterns individually designed for each of the pilots of the Red Bull Air Race 09 \ Porto.

add fuel to the fire by Cropp

From Cropp / LPP Press Room:

“The collections signed by the street art artists add to the character of CROPP. An exceptional Portuguese artist was invited to cooperate this year, which resulted in ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE. It is a completely new edition of another collection by CROPP which is dedicated to all the trendsetters and people who are positively crazy when it comes to their own clothes.

This year’s collection, ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE by CROPP, was created in cooperation with the promising Portuguese street art artist Diogo Machado. Diogo talks about himself as a graphical freelancer who takes pleasure in creating unconventional projects. His fantasy world is inhabited by ‘freaky’ figures of graphics, sometimes funny, sometimes even highly apocalyptic. ADD FUEL TO THE FIRE welcomes us to its funky world that combines various kinds of art, music, film, streetart and video games.

The new CROPP collection signed by Diogo offers a wide range of blouses, T-shirts and accessories that were designed so that one could combine outfits by subjects. Beside graphics the models are also provided with over prints that enable complete clothes matching with accessories. The collection is maintained in a crazy style typical for Diogo and is anticipated by the fans of original clothing and the far out climate of creative street wear.

You can find more information about the artistic collection and its creator, Diogo, on the website www.cropp.com.”

My big thanks to all the nice people from Cropp, for all the support and dedication creating this super-nice-i-oh collection. Stay tuned here in the blog, facebook and website for more photos about this.
